Check your battery in one minute
- See the health. Apple menu > System Settings > Battery. Click the i next to Battery Health. It says Normal or Service Recommended.
- See the cycle count. Hold the Option key and click the Apple menu. Choose System Information > Power. Look for Cycle Count.
- Compare it. Apple rates most MacBooks for 1,000 cycles. One cycle is using 100% of the charge, even if it is spread over a few days.

Usually yes, if the rest of the Mac works. A battery costs far less than a new Mac. If we find another fault that makes it not worth it, we tell you before you pay for anything.
Is it worth repairing a 7-year-old MacBook?
It depends on what you use it for. If it still runs the apps you need, a new battery can give it years more. If it can no longer get macOS security updates, we will tell you, so you can decide.
How long does a MacBook battery last?
Apple rates most MacBooks for 1,000 charge cycles. For most people that is about 3 to 5 years.
Can I replace a MacBook battery myself?
Most MacBook batteries are glued in. Prying them out can puncture a cell, which can catch fire. We have the tools and solvent to remove them safely.
